I have a sneaking suspicion that Bob Rush and the rest of the Rehab/Sober Living Home Activists would say that he's lying...
That's the level of distrust which has occurred in Newport Beach.
And it's getting a bit wearisome.
In today's Daily Pilot is this article,
"City to reveal rehab plan."
After all the meetings, all the accusations, all the gavel-banging, all the lawyers, the City is ready to unveil a new ordinance which will address the crazy proliferation of the rehab/sober living homes which have littered over 100-150 (depending on who's doing the estimating) homes throughout residential neighborhoods.
Good.
Problem is?
The Rehab activists are already (sight unseen, of course) expecting the worst.
I guess I must be:
Naive, idealistic, trusting, stupid (fill in your own adjective).
But I am hopeful and not:
Pessimistic, distrustful, apprehensive, angry (fill in your own adjective).
Most interesting part of the article?
“I don’t think a discriminatory ordinance is the answer,” Peloquin (John Peloquin - VP of the Company which owns Sober Living By the Sea) said."
Did you see that word - Discriminatory.
He hasn't seen the new ordinance and he's already getting the Discrimination Lawsuit ready.
...and because of that:
"The proposal, written with the help of independent law firm Richards, Watson & Gershon, “will take the best and most legally defensible stance and wrap it into a comprehensible ordinance,” Kiff (Assistant City Manager Dave Kiff) said."
I think that's where the real teeth of the ordinance will be lacking.
If the ordinance does as it should, expect lawsuits from the Rehab/Sober Living Homes on the basis of discrimination.
If the ordinance doesn't do as it should, expect lawsuits from the angry residents.
Guess the City will have to hire more lawyers...
