Debbie Cook Against El Toro Airport?

El Toro International Airport...something which will always remain on the mind of Newport Beach/Costa Mesa residents.

The way Newport Beach figured, if an airport at the former El Toro Marine Base was built, then expansion of John Wayne Airport wouldn't be necessary.

So, Newport Beach sued to keep Measure W from passing.

It became a battle of North County versus South County.

And South County won, and Measure W passed.

(side note - I was against the El Toro International Airport also, but primarily because I don't think an International airport belongs in Orange County PERIOD.)

Of course, since Measure W passed, killing the El Toro International Airport, the growth of John Wayne Airport now seems inevitable.

And Newport Beach still holds a grudge.

Anyway, tonight I received this post comment on a tongue-in-cheek blog post I made a month and a half ago.

Debbie Cook was a sponsor of Measure W, which scuttled El Toro Airport. If voters in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana Heights get a reminder of that, then she will suffer heavy losses in that part of the district.

Very interesting...so of course, as any person in my position would do, I did some research and behold...
Here's the link for the site which gives the argument if favor of Measure W, signed by Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook (among others).

Will the El Toro International airport affect how Huntington Beach will vote, probably not.

Will it affect how Rancho Palos Verdes votes? Probably not.

But will it affect how Costa Mesa and Santa Ana Heights votes? (click on this link so see that ALL of Santa Ana Heights is in Congressman Rohrabacher's 46th Congressional District - this means that Congressman Rorhabacher still does represent parts of Newport Beach.)

YOU'D BETTER FREAKIN' BELIEVE IT!!!!!

Will Costa Mesa and Santa Ana Heights decide the Congressional race? Probably not.

But in a District where Republicans heavily outnumber Democrats, Daily Pilot favorite Debbie Cook will need every vote she can muster.

And finding votes in an area where the quality of life is seriously threatened by the passage of Debbie Cook-sponsored Measure W might be a bit rough.

Regardless of Political Party affiliation.
