Corona Del Mar Residents Association E-Newsletter

I've been involved with many Residents Associations over the years, attending various ones as a Board Member and others as a residents to others as just a curious observer. I must say that the Corona Del Mar Residents Association has been the most political active that I've seen. Go to a meeting and don't be surprised to see one, if not two, current City Council members (plus the numerous former Councilmembers) in attendance, in addition to the numerous City Commission members, present and former. In conjunction with the Corona Del Mar Chamber and their Business Improvement District, they've been able to enact REAL change in their village. They've done, and continue to do, a great job utilizing all their avenues to improve their little part of Newport Beach.

Below is their September E-Newsletter:

CdMRA Members:
Now that Summer's over, everyone is getting back into full swing with work and school. There are a number of important events and meetings scheduled for September that impact our members. Please take a few minutes to read through this note. Detail on all of these events and meetings can be found on our website (www.cdmra.org).
1. CdM Median Improvement Project - Phase II
Additional raised planters are being constructed as the second phase of the Median Improvement Project got underway in August. Construction and planting will be completed by November 2007.
2. Corona del Mar Branch Library - Follow Up Meeting: September 8 @ 9:00 am
As promised, Council Member Nancy Gardner has scheduled this follow up meeting for Saturday, September 8, to review the results of the public outreach meetings last week. It was the general consensus of the residents that attended the meeting that the branch should remain open at its present location on Marigold, and that children's programs should receive more support than they have in the past. It was also the consensus that our Fire Department is a valuable resource and should also remain on Marigold for easy access to all residents in Corona del Mar. Council Member Gardner directed staff to come up with alternatives that would results in better facilities for both these important community services at their existing locations. This meeting will explore these alternatives in more detail. Please don't miss this opportunity to learn about the future possibilities for our branch library and fire department. See our website for more details (www.cdmra.org). And be sure to contact the Library Trustees and City Council regarding your position on the branch library. Email addresses and phone numbers can also be found on our website.
3. Planning Commission Meeting - Group Homes Continued: September 20 @ 6:30 pm
The Newport Beach Planning Commission is continuing their review of codes which regulate group homes. This is a lengthy and complicated process, but one that must be addressed. With over 100 homes concentrated on the Newport Peninsula, and more homes opening in Corona del Mar and Newport Heights, this is an issue that impacts all of us. Please read a recap of the August Planning Commission meeting on our website, and be sure to attend the upcoming meeting. CdMRA's Board supports the strict regulation of group-home use to preserve the residential character and quality of life for residents and the entire neighborhood, and has sent a letter to city officials stating this position. See our website for more details (www.cdmra.org).
