Viral Marketing Rx

If you haven’t gotten a case of viral marketing yet, you need to be exposed as soon as possible. Sound unhealthy? Well, not to worry. Viral marketing, although off-putting in its name, is actually quite healthy… for business that is.

So what is it? How does it work?

Viral Marketing is, in essence at a very basic level, the sharing of a good idea. As a business owner and internet marketer, you already have a good idea. The challenge comes when trying to share that idea – trying to stir up and generate as much interest in your product or service as possible. That is where viral marketing comes in.

It takes many different forms, from the classic Hotmail example (a link at the end of every hotmail account email) to popular social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. But viral marketing is more about an approach than it is a specific outlet. You see, with intent to share – or actually spread – your message, you need to reach as many people in as little time as possible. That is the ultimate goal of viral marketing. And, if you are successful, you won’t only reach people with your message, but you will win their business and gain that of their family, friends, piers and colleagues as well.

The best way to get started is to simply jump in. Don’t have a Twitter account or Facebook page? Get one. And, most importantly, don’t simply sign up and think your viral marketing campaign will run itself. You have to manage this project just like any other – with care. And just like any well-oiled machine, your viral marketing will run its course with longevity if you take your daily dose.
