Tools to enhance your Twitter experience

In the free report, “How to Twitter Effectively,” you learned what a powerful tool Twitter can be. But it doesn't exactly have a laundry list of features. You can send short messages, search the messages of others, and... not much more. Simplicity is the key here.

The developers of Twitter had the foresight to make their Application Programming Interface, or API, freely available. That means that developers can create tools for Twitter users at little or no cost. This is great for Twitter users, because it means that many of the resulting applications are free.

If you're using Twitter for marketing, there are many tools available that can make things easier for you. Here are a few to consider:

* Desktop clients – Apps such as TweetDeck and Twhirl put Twitter right on your desktop, so you don't even have to visit the Twitter website. There are lots of desktop clients to choose from, and features vary. But all allow you to post “tweets” and view those of the people you follow. Some also let you conduct searches, allow for access to multiple accounts simultaneously and more.

* Twitter directories – You could have the best Twitter marketing campaign in the world, and it wouldn't do much good if you weren't reaching your target market. Twitter directories help you find users by criteria such as occupation and interest. You can use them to search for your ideal customers and add them as friends.

* Twitter maps – If you're targeting a specific geographical area, apps that show the locations of Twitter users can really come in handy.

These are just a few of the many types of Twitter applications that are available. No matter what you want to do with Twitter, there's a good chance that there's a tool out there that can help you do it.
