Well, I’ve been early before on an issue and lost the vote before. And I hoped like crazy in 1994 that I wasn’t right.
Yesterday’s OC Register article laid most of the details on one investigation out there for all to see. One glaring observation I would make is the amount of “embellishments.” Claiming that the CEO approved Chriss’s efforts to retain an architectural firm for the outside of his building, which is not within his job description, is an embellishment. To say that the elected Clerk-Recorder and Auditor-Controller had committed to chip in a quarter of the costs each, and they denied it, is an embellishment. It’s fine to earn Boy Scout merit badges, but let’s get them without stepping out of your jurisdiction and without embellishments.
Even though another investigation was disclosed by a speaker, the Board showed tremendous grace yesterday (Proverbs 3:12 comes to mind). An observation by Supervisor Campbell about “not wanting to see another shoe drop” may have summarized the Board’s concerns.
As for me, what you do in the private sector is one thing. What you do here at the County is now my concern. That may be why they gave us the title of “Supervisor.”
Here are today’s articles in the OC Register, LA Times and Daily Pilot:
