is not the sweet old guy that just wants to do good for the
people of Newport Beach. He is threatening litigation against
the Newport Beach City Council for a technical reason: "You
broke the Brown Act!"....ooh boy.....when is that not done?
Anyway, Flicker Ficker has employed famous Orange County Blog
Runner Matt Cunningham of Red County to run his campaign for
the Civic Park by the Hall!
In the meantime, our old pal Jim Righeimer is out there from
the fringes (Planning Commissioner for Costa Mesa and Daily
Plot front page Saturday writer) telling the folks here in
Newport Beach....what would be best for them! Jimmy, cool
your grits...compadre! We know you know, Matt and Bill and
all the boyz! But it might be better when out of the front
lines....not to be dropping leaflets warning of nuclear
destruction when you are not even in the fray! This is very
contentious stuff....and the fewer of the "kibitzers" the
better before those legal challenges fly!
At any rate, our other pal Keith Curry seems to be spot on...
with Ed Selich's plan for the OCTA Transportation Center. We
are not sold in any respect....but at least it doesn't count
on land that has already been spoken for! The talk all around
is that the original City Hall property may now be back in play
because people are fed up - with a pox on both houses! As usual,
we tried to offer a suitable compromise; by suggesting we make
do with the Santa Barbara properties and the free acquisition
of the Arts Museum. The three people that do go to the Art Museum
contacted us....and voiced their opposition to our plan....which
obliviously includes a current three story parking structure
which has to be leased out to fill it up.
Oh well, back to the "make work", "seeking more funds for a
legal battle" Ficker concept of what a Brown Act violation might
be. Spending $4 to $5 Million by a 4-3 vote perhaps could create
a legal hurdle for both Attorney's of record. For those of us that
think "common sense" - before you sue, is the best course....we
guess they will just keep collecting their legal fees. But, what
about City Attorney Robin Clauson? Will she have to hire another
consultant to fight this legal challenge? Bob Burnham was bad..
but this is starting to get ridiculous on the City legal front!
Or will there be a legal challenge at all to Ficker's lawsuit?
So, Captain Ficker....get out there and collect lots of money
and spend it frivolously....Professional Political Hacks need that
money! Hey, maybe you can get some other guy to pump in
$158,000 for your campaign. How much do you need for flyers and
Initiative collecting activities again? Sorry, but in good conscious
we can't sign up...maybe next time....maybe when you want to elect
a Mayor for the City instead. You see, if we indeed have an elected
Mayor, he could now be setting that agenda for the new Civic Center
Complex and be out there trying to drum up support. We wouldn't have
to rely on Jim Righeimer, Matt Cunningham or Bill Ficker for our
civic leadership!
