Maximize The Speed Of Your Internet Connection

Check for faster Internet connections in your area. Optical fiber and cable Internet tends to be faster than DSL and dial-up.

# Make the basic maintenance on your PC. Run Disk Defrag, Scan Disk, a virus scan, a malware scan and clear your Recycle Bin. Experience unusually slow Internet is often the only sign that your computer is infected with viruses or other malware. Delete old files and temporary files. Never leave space on your C: drive less than 10% of the total size or twice the installed RAM (which is higher). A well maintained PC will operate much better than a PC that has never had any maintenance. Google or your local store computer repair must be able to help you with this if you do not know how you can use a good system cleaner, PC Optimizer tool as freeware for free CCleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner and Wise Disk Cleaner or purchase something.

Reset your home network. Sometimes the reboot (or unplug and reconnect the power of) your home network or router - if you have one - will dramatically increase the speed of your connection.

4

Check your local computer network in general. If you have multiple computers share a connection, make sure that all computers are physically connected to a router or switch, not just a hub. Hubs are "stupid", low level of equipment, while the routers are able to prioritize and manage traffic efficiently.

5

Optimize your cache or temporary Internet files. These files improve the performance of your Internet connection by not downloading the same file multiple times. When a website makes your logo graphic on every page of your computer just download again when it changes.

* Note: If you delete temporary files (graphics and such), they must be downloaded again when you go to this site. If you disable the cache (software loaded, data), so it must be downloaded each time you view the page that uses it. This can be corrected by opening Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" at the top and choose "Internet Options". On the General tab, click the "Settings" button next to Temporary Internet Files. Place a check for newer versions to manage the downloading of new versions "automatically". Adjust the amount of disk space to use for 2% of your total disk size or 512 MB, which is less and less. In Firefox, click "Tools" then "Settings" and go to the Privacy tab. Then click on Cache for this to bring it into automatic.

If you are using a wireless router, make sure that does not conflict with your wireless phone or a wireless camera. Wireless routers are three varieties, 802.11 b, g, and n (2.4 GHz) or 802.11 (5.8Ghz) If you use a cordless phone at 2.4 GHz and 2.4 GHz wireless router then the connection speed slow internet when using wireless phone. The same applies to wireless security cameras. Check your phone and camera, if it is 900MHz, then it's okay. If it says 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz then it could be the cause of your slow speed when they are used.

7

Call your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Sometimes it's just bad service. They can usually tell if the connection is worse, without a technician to your home. Just be nice and ask.

8

Improve your computer. If your computer is slow, no matter how fast your Internet connection, everything just seemed slow. You can access the Internet faster than your PC you will.

9

Improve your router / hardware firewall. Specifically, look in all the specifications for speed (more than many routers are not able to transfer to / from the Internet faster than 10 Mbps, even if the local port sends 100 Mbps). In addition, older routers are low power, so even if the theoretical speed is 10 Mbps, the router processor is too weak to reach the maximum speed.

10

Update firmware on your router. Refer to the manufacturer's website for downloads of firmware on your router. Compare that with your version and upgrade if necessary. Most routers have web interfaces to manage this, check the labels for all your router indicating the default address, username and password.

11

Replace your old cable modem. All electronic semiconductors deteriorate over time due to damage from accumulated heat. Broadband modem will be a time of increasingly difficult, "focusing on maintaining a good connection as it ages (signal to noise ratio decreases and the number of requests to send the same packet will increase). A cable modem post-sale, as opposed to a cable modem companies often provide a better connection.

12

Often, the speed of your connection is slow because other programs use it. To test whether other programs such as anti-virus and other updates have access to the Internet without your knowledge, click Start, click Run. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Type "netstat-b 5> activity.txt". After a minute or two, hold down Ctrl and press C. This created a file with a list of all programs using your Internet connection. Sign activity.txt to open the file and see the list of programs.

13

Try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete and open Task Manager. Go to the menu and the process of closing the process can be valuable bandwidth. (NOTE: The closing process names unknown can cause programs known not to work properly). There is a column with the username, and if it is "system", you better leave him alone until they stop using the program you need. But if the user login name is yours, then it is crucial to the operating system, but may be required by other programs, but you may experience. Often, the system will not shut down - or reopen - the programs for system requirements.

14

After you've tried some of these tests on your connection again and see if it works faster. If it is best that you may need to close those extras, every time you reboot your system until you set the start list not to open more.

15

Make sure someone else is using the Internet via your home network. If someone has downloaded a lot of media on the Internet, such as watching video or downloading large files, the host computer uses a lot of bandwidth and other computers using the bandwidth remaining.

16

If you are using a satellite Internet connection, Internet connection may be changed, because of the wind (vibrations) and electrical / in the clouds, snow or rain and lightning, static and other electrical interference.
