Maryland Lawmakers Look To Crack Down On Flash Mobs

WASHINGTON - Fighting flash mob thefts: There's a plan for that.
 
Maryland lawmakers are considering legislation that would offer a get-tough approach to deal with what legislators say is a growing problem.
 
The bill would hold flash mob participants accountable for the total amount of merchandise stolen -- not just what he or she individually took.
 
"If someone as part of a flash mob took items that were worth $10 but the entire flash mob took items that were worth $1,000, each individual could be prosecuted based on the aggregate amount of $1,000," Maryland Delegate Jeffrey Waldstreicher, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, explains.
